The gymnastics team finally got its season underway Saturday, losing at Somerset 124.65-97.15.

The Whalers, who have been training since winter practices started shortly after Thanksgiving, showed improvement in skill and depth since first hitting the gym, but could not keep pace with the Blue Raiders

.
“I was really proud of our performance and really proud of the level of depth we have accomplished in the last four weeks with girls that are not only new to the team, but new to the sport,” head coach Richelle D’Elia Beaudette said.

The Whalers will look to build on their first performances during a streak of four home meets over the next three weeks. Nantucket is scheduled to open against Carver tonight at 5 p.m.
