(Jan. 14, 2010) The junior-varsity girls basketball team got back on the court for the first time in nearly a month Saturday and took care of business against visiting South Shore Voke, 39-12.
The Whalers, who improved to 2-0 with the victory, used a pressure defense to make steals off the press and convert easy points in transition against the Vikings.
Saturday marked the first game for the junior-varsity squad since it won easily at Pope John Paul II 41-20 Dec. 14, and the first contest at home this season.
“We have been trying to keep practices interesting, but still trying to focus on things. Still our focus is defense. (Saturday) we got the majority of points off steals and great defense right up front with Ashley Symer and Tiffany Balling. They played great defense and we got all our points in transition, which is exactly what we have been shooting for,” head coach Adriene Lombardi said. “We think it’s a great game if we don’t have to run an offense.”
