The varsity gymnastics team tallied its highest point total of the season thus far in a loss at home to Case Saturday afternoon, 138.05-102.55.

“Case is an excellent team. They are very strong and experienced. I was proud our team was able to stay focused and positive,” head coach Richelle D’Elia Beaudette said.

The Whalers (0-3) had a lot to be positive about as new, more-challenging elements boosted scores, and consistency on others resulted in success across the four events.

“We were able to add a little difficulty on floor with some of our tumbling, and on vault we added another difficulty with a front handspring,” D’Elia Beaudette said. “On beam and bars our routines were similar, but on bars the girls are feeling more comfortable and they looked really confident, similar to last week.”

The Whalers’ final dual meet of the regular season was scheduled for yesterday at home against Nauset, too late for this edition of Sports. Nantucket will travel to Somerset on Feb. 6 for the Cranberry League championship meet to close out the season.

“They are working hard. With two weeks left in the season I am really hopeful they will peak at their league meet in two weeks. We are definitely headed in that direction because they are becoming stronger and more confident each week and at each competition,” D’Elia Beaudette said.
