(Jan. 28, 2010)With the Bay Colony Conference title on the line, the boys swimming and diving team faced its toughest two league opponents this week, beating rival Nauset Saturday 97-86, before falling to league front-runner Sandwich Tuesday night, 119-67.
“Sandwich is a very talented program. Give those guys a lot of credit for what they did today,” head coach Jim Pignato said after the meet. “Our guys stepped up to the challenge. We knew it was going to be a tough road going in, but we performed well.”
Also this week, the girls’ swim team lost to Nauset in a close contest, 89-81. The girls dropped to 3-3 overall this season (3-2 in the BCC), while the boys fell to 5-2 overall (5-1 in the BCC).
With only two meets remaining on the regular-season schedule this weekend, the focus turns to preparing both squads for the Bay Colony Conference Championship meet, South/Central Sectionals and the Division II State Championships.
“We will use the Taunton meet (Saturday) and Duxbury meet (Sunday) as opportunities to get some swims in for kids to really set the tone for moving forward to the championships,” Pignato said.
The boys’ team got a taste of that postseason energy Tuesday night at home. Sandwich has dominated the competition since joining the Bay Colony Conference last season.y Conference, but left three years ago for the Hockomock League.
