(Feb. 4, 2010) The junior varsity boys basketball team split two games this week, winning in overtime over Pope John Paul II at home Saturday, 44-41, before falling at Cape Cod Tech Monday, 54-33.

“What we did well during the win, we didn’t do very well during the loss, which was simply pick up the intensity level,” head coach John Stanton said. “There are some good basketball players on this team. They are learning how to play better and better, but you have to keep up the intensity.”

The Whalers fell to 3-6 this season with four games remaining on the schedule. Nantucket will visit Sturgis next Tuesday before hosting Mashpee Thursday.

After the high-intensity overtime victory over Pope John Paul II Saturday, the Whalers struggled at Cape Cod Academy Monday.

“I think we got there and just decided we didn’t want to play basketball,” Stanton said.
