Gymnastics takes eighth at league meet

The gymnastics team competed in the Cranberry League Championships Saturday at Somerset North Elementary School and finished with a season-high total 103.45 points.


The 16-team Cranberry League is divided into two divisions based on season scores for competition in the championship meet. The Whalers competed against the eight lower-scoring teams in the league and finished eighth overall.


Barnstable won its 11th consecutive league title with a score of 145.05 competing in the top division. Nauset finished second at 140.9 and Bridgewater/Raynham came in third at 137.7.

Cohasset/Norwell won the secondary division.


Two Nantucket gymnasts competed in the all-around competition. Senior captain Sophie Civitarese scored her highest total of the season, placing 11th overall with 27.15 points. Senior Kayla Hatch also scored her highest total, finishing 12th overall with 26.15.
