Sailing gets off to a fast start

The Whalers sailing team completed a busy week of Cape & Islands League regattas and are off to a solid start to the spring season.

The varsity squad raced against three teams last Wednesday at Bourne, defeating Dennis-Yarmouth and Bourne, while losing to Nauset. On Saturday, the Whalers challenged all five Cape & Islands East teams, defeating Harwich, Dennis-Yarmouth and Chatham, while losing to Barnstable and Nauset.

The Whalers finished the week with a 5-3 record and put themselves in good standing to qualify for a spot in the Cape & Islands team-racing finals in late May.

Nantucket, which is front-loading its schedule this season with multiple league regattas on single trips, opened with a visit to Bourne for a round-robin best-of-three team-racing series against three schools. Nantucket lost to Nauset 2-0, but easily defeated Bourne 2-0, and then Dennis-Yarmouth 2-1 after a tie-breaker in race three.
