The varsity boys lacrosse team made a spirited attempt at a comeback in the fourth quarter at Bridgewater-Raynham Tuesday afternoon, but despite two late goals by Jamison Viera, the Whalers came up short 8-7.
“(Bridgewater-Raynham) played really well. I knew we were in trouble the second we stepped on the field. They looked really sharp and there was no comparison,” head coach Rick Blair said. “It was clear we were really groggy after the break.”
The Whalers, who last played Thursday, April 15 in a lackluster 11-7 win over Dennis-Yarmouth, were also playing Tuesday without team-leading scorer Taylor Thayer, who missed the game due to illness.
“You could tell Bridgewater had planned really well for us. When Taylor wasn’t there, they identified stopping Jamie,” Blair said. “We inverted our middies a lot to try to compensate for the fact that otherwise we have two freshmen attack.”
The Whalers, who dropped to 4-4 overall this season, will look to get back on track today when they host Plymouth South.
