The boys varsity lacrosse team rebounded from their post-vacation loss at Bridgewater-Raynham last week to defeat Plymouth South 13-7 Thursday at home.
“I think we were a little better prepared to play. We still have a lot of things that need attention, particularly, we need to develop more depth at the defensive end of the field,” head coach Rick Blair said.
The Whalers, who improved to 5-4 overall this season, were scheduled to visit Plymouth South Monday for a rematch of last week’s win. Nantucket made the trip, but due to miscommunication involving the postponement of the junior-varsity boys lacrosse game, the officials did not show for the varsity game. The Panthers agreed to reschedule the game at Nantucket.
Nantucket needs four wins in its remaining nine games to earn a bid to Division III East postseason play. The Whalers are scheduled to visit Dennis-Yarmouth this afternoon and host Barnstable Tuesday.
Against Plymouth South last Thursday, Nantucket welcomed leading scorer Taylor Thayer back to the field. The senior immediately made his presence felt, playing a role in 10 of the 13 goals by scoring three times and dishing out seven assists.
The Whalers were able to capitalize on the Panthers’ six first-half penalties, scoring in three man-advantage situations for a 6-3 lead at the half.
