JV softball gets revenge against Pope John Paul II, 13-4

After watching Pope John Paul II come from behind to steal a victory on the island last week, the junior varsity softball team got its revenge with a 13-4 win on the Lions’ home field Friday afternoon.

The shorthanded Whalers squad improved to 2-4 this season.

“I think they responded really well considering we are down to 10 kids and have shuffled everyone around. We have a totally new infield just from last weekend’s game. You have girls playing where they have never played,” head coach Bill Ciarmataro said.

The Whalers will look to continue their hot hitting when they match up against Bishop Connolly at home today and then on the road against the Cougars Tuesday.

It wasn’t exactly a solid start for the team as Pope John Paul II got on the board first and led 3-0 after two innings. But a team meeting led by captains Melissa Reid and Leah Pearl got the Whalers focused and motivated and they responded.
