The varsity sailing team defeated Harwich at home Monday three races to one to clinch third place in the Cape & Islands League’s east division and qualify for the first-ever Cape & Islands Team Racing Championship later this month.
The top three teams in the east division will square off against the top three teams in the west division to determine the 2010 Cape & Islands Team Racing Champion.
The Whalers, who improved to 8-7 overall this season, still have some work to do.
On tap for the sailing program this week is the first-ever Cape & Islands Women’s Fleet Racing Championship on Nantucket Friday at 3 p.m. in the main anchorage in front of the Nantucket Boat Basin. Also this week will be a home regatta against Dennis-Yarmouth Tuesday.
