The varsity softball team earned two more wins this week, coming from behind to defeat Bishop Connolly at home last Thursday 12-4 and easily topping Sturgis 20-1 Monday on the road.
The Whalers, who qualified for the Division III South postseason tournament last week, improved to 13-2 overall with five games remaining on the regular-season schedule. Nantucket is scheduled to host Division II Dennis-Yarmouth this afternoon and then travel to Division II Pembroke for a potentially challenging doubleheader Saturday.
The victory over Bishop Connolly last week was the third straight close game for the varsity squad. Nantucket had the early 2-0 lead, but fell behind 4-2 in the third inning before breaking the game open.
“That’s good experience for us to realize that we have the ability to come back,” head coach Chris Maury said.
Ashley Clinger provided the offensive firepower, belting two home runs as part of a 3-for-3, three RBI day at the plate.
