(Sept. 24, 2009) The girls soccer team is playing with confidence early in the season, leading to tight games and some key victories against strong opponents. The Whalers defeated Provincetown easily 5-0 last Wednesday before surprising Coyle Cassidy 2-1 on the road Saturday and tying Fairhaven at home 2-2 Tuesday.

The Whalers improved to 4-1-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 through half of their Lighthouse Conference schedule.

“I think we are moving in the right direction, getting competition against tough teams, getting roughed up and pushed around and that is a good thing getting ready for the playoffs, if we make it,” head coach Jorge Rojas said. “Try to play different styles of games. We are getting different looks of teams, so when it counts at the end of the season, we will know what to do and how to do it.”
