(Sept. 24, 2009) The varsity golf team picked up two non-league wins this week, beating Mashpee 274-283 last Wednesday and Cape Cod Tech 8-1 Monday, but lost a close battle against league foe Cape Cod Academy 5-4 Thursday.

The Whalers improved to 3-2 overall, but fell to 0-2 in the Lighthouse Conference.

“We all know the scores can be better and we will keep working on it,” head coach Peter MacKay said. “I am convinced we can win the away matches against both Sturgis and Cape Cod Academy. There is a lot more upside on our team than we have evidenced so far.”

The Whalers’ round totals have been coming down from the high 40s and mid 50s to low 40s, but MacKay is still looking for more rounds in the high 30s.

“They know that they are going in the right direction right now. We have been working hard in practice. I have to give a lot of compliments to my coaches,” MacKay said.
