(Oct. 1, 2009) Tri-County ran right at the Whalers Friday night and the varsity football team could do nothing to stop them. The Mayflower Small League defending champions assembled three long scoring drives and controlled the time of possession, handing the Whalers their first league loss of the season, 28-0.

The Cougars’ defense controlled the line of scrimmage and capitalized on three Whalers’ turnovers to earn the shutout as they made a statement that they are one of the top teams in the league again this season.

Tri-County improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Mayflower Small, while the Whalers fell to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the league.

“We played a team that was a lot tougher than us. This is a very good team we played. They are defending league champs. They went to the Super Bowl last year, and from the looks of the film (from the Super Bowl), they look better this year,” head coach John Aloisi said.
