Girls soccer gets back in the groove

(Oct. 8, 2009) The varsity girls soccer game was winless in four straight games heading into Tuesday’s match against Lighthouse Conference foe Provincetown. The Whalers, who had been facing top-level competition through the middle portion of their schedule, took some time off to rest their legs in preparation for the final stretch of the season and responded by posting an 11-0 victory on the road against the Fishermen.

Nantucket also lost at Scituate last Wednesday 1-0.

The Whalers, who improved to 5-4-1 overall and 4-0 in the Lighthouse Conference, are scheduled to visit Cape Cod Academy this afternoon for a key rematch of the opening game of the season, when the Whalers upset the Seahawks 4-2 for their first-ever victory over the conference rival.

A win over Cape Cod Academy and Sturgis later in October could mean the first-ever Lighthouse Conference championship for the girls soccer team.
