Two more shutouts for JV field hockey

(Oct. 15, 2009)The junior varsity field hockey team scored two more shut-out victories this week, defeating Fairhaven 1-0 Saturday and St. Peter-Marian 3-0 Monday.

The Whalers, who improved to 5-2 this season, have five shutouts through seven games. The only two goals allowed this season came in the two losses.

Against a solid competitor in St. Peter-Marian Monday, the Whalers came away successful due in large part to a strong defense and a key performance by goalie Robin Gottlieb between the posts.

“They were very strong. It is not what we are used to playing, but I thought our defense held their own with Robin having the most shots she has had on her all season and still having a shutout,” head coach Luciana Moran said.
