(Oct. 22, 2009) The junior varsity football team lost on the final play of the game at Cape Cod Tech last week. The Crusaders scored a touchdown on an eight-yard sweep play as the clock struck zero to break a tie and take the 12-6 victory.

The Whalers (0-2) offense struggled to mount much of an attack against the Crusaders, while the defense kept the game close to the final play.

“It is really too bad because the kids, they played with a lot of effort. We don’t fault the effort. We have a lot of work to do on execution. Our players have to do a better job at learning and executing their assignments,” head coach Vaughan Machado said.

The main football field at Cape Cod Tech was underwater when the Whalers arrived so the two squads were delegated to a secondary field that measured approximately 80 yards in length and had only one goal post, Machado said.
