(Oct. 29, 2009) Don’t look now, but the Whalers football team is in a tie for first place.
Nantucket defeated Old Colony on the road Saturday 26-6 and improved to 4-3 overall and 4-1 in the Mayflower Small. West Bridgewater did Nantucket a favor when they upset league-leading Tri-County Friday night, 14-8. With the Whalers’ win and the Cougars’ loss, Nantucket now sits in a tie with Tri-County for first place in the league with identical records.
“I think it is tremendous. The fact that we are going into week eight in first place just says a lot about the kids’ work ethic and commitment at this point. It’s a great opportunity for them, they have really earned it,” head coach John Aloisi said.
The Whalers, whose only league loss was against Tri-County 28-0 in the third week of the season, will have the opportunity to take over sole possession of first place when they go head-to-head on the Cougars’ home field Saturday. Kick-off is set for 1:30 p.m.
