(Nov. 12, 2009) Capitalizing on a fast start to get on the scoreboard first, the varsity boys soccer team upset Old Colony on the road in the first round of the Division III South Sectional tournament Sunday afternoon, easily defeating the Cougars 4-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.

“They key to playoff games is getting off to an early start and playing with playoff intensity, and that’s what we preached to the guys the last two weeks. They were able to play with the intensity they needed, surpass their opponent’s intensity level and really dominate the game,” head coach Rich Brannigan said.

The ninth-seeded Whalers scored twice in the first 20 minutes of each half to take control over the eighth-seeded Cougars.
