(Nov. 12 , 2009) Blue and white balloons lined the sidelines, raucous fans full of Whaler Pride packed the stands and the varsity football team provided the fireworks in Saturday night’s 34-26 Homecoming-game victory over Holbrook.

Nantucket fell behind early in the second half, but rallied to score three touchdowns on three straight possessions and stop the Bulldogs on the final drive to earn the win.

“It was one of the biggest positives of the game that our kids responded to adversity well. They seemed to step up when we were against the ropes. It seemed like we turned it on when we got down, which was great,” head coach John Aloisi said.

The Whalers, who improved to 5-4 overall and 5-2 in the Mayflower Small, will hit the road for the final time this season Saturday at West Bridgewater. Nantucket shocked the Wildcats in the first meeting of the season, forcing five turnovers en route to a 26-6 victory at home. West Bridgewater has since reeled off four straight wins including knocking off Mayflower Small front-runner Tri-County 14-8. Nantucket and West Bridgewater are currently tied for second place in the league at 5-2.
