(Nov. 19 , 2009)West Bridgewater went after the Whalers Monday afternoon and went after them hard. Out for revenge after a Nantucket victory earlier in the season, the Wildcats demolished the Whalers on their home field 44-14 in the final league game of the season.

“It was our poorest performance of the season,” head coach John Aloisi said. “Literally across the board. Other than executing our two pass plays, which we executed very well on the first drive, it was hard to find a bright spot.”

West Bridgewater ran right at the Whalers and scored on every single possession, taking a 32-6 lead at halftime en route to the win. The Wildcats were a perfect 3-for-3 on fourth down and 4-for-7 on third-down conversions, while the run-centric Whalers could not move the football on the ground.

“It was disappointing. We did not put our best effort forward and I am not sure why. Ultimately it falls on me to get the kids ready to play and they clearly weren’t. We are going to try to correct that and get them ready for Friday,” Aloisi said.

The Whalers, who fell to 5-5 overall (5-3 Mayflower Small), have a quick turnaround to prepare for Friday’s season finale against Cape Cod Tech. The Mayflower Large school fell out of contention for the league title with a 14-12 loss at Bristol-Plymouth last weekend.
