Girls basketball stalls the Storm

(Dec. 23, 2009)The first Lighthouse Conference win of the season came easily for the varsity girls basketball team last Wednesday afternoon against Sturgis, 63-19.

The Whalers (2-0) broke out to an 18-0 lead in the first quarter and led 38-5 by half en route to the victory.

Saturday’s anticipated match-up against Sacred Heart was postponed due to inclement weather, leaving Nantucket with a lengthy break leading up to the Cohasset Tournament Monday and Tuesday. The Whalers will face host Cohasset Monday night and Hull Tuesday afternoon, both Division IV South tournament front-runners.

“You always want to fine-tune or have a good game before you go play Cohasset and Hull. We are going to go over there coming off a Sturgis game and sitting for a while, with a short week of practice. That part is a little disappointing,” head coach Willis Ferreira said. “We are going to have to go over there, have some fun and see what happens. This team has a lot of potential, but it also has a lot of work ahead of it to figure it out.”
