2007-2008 NHS Swim Season
02/28/08: Swimmers break three records at State Championships
Ainsley Ellis and Beau Garufi represented Nantucket swimming at the Division II State Championships last weekend and broke three school records between them.
02/21/08: Ellis, Garufi lead swimmers in South/Central Sectionals
Nantucket swimmers made quite a showing at the South/Central Sectional Championships last weekend at the MIT pool in Cambridge.
02/14/08: Whalers lose out on BCC title to Nauset
The boys swim team challenged Nauset for the top spot in the Bay Colony Conference last week and ultimately fell 94-76. The Whalers defeated Taunton 14-6 in the final dual meet of the regular season.
02/07/08: Swimming takes second at championships
Wild weather wreaked havoc on the Bay Colony Conference swimming championships held on Nantucket Saturday for the first time in 10 years. Only two of the four teams made the trip – league contenders Barnstable and Nauset – while Taunton and Coyle-Cassidy opted out given the rough weather.
01/31/08: Swimming cruises to victory over B-R
The boys and girls swimming and diving teams picked up easy wins over first-year program and Bay Colony Conference opponent Bridgewater-Raynham Saturday.
01/24/08: Boys swimming swipes two wins
The boys swimming and diving team scored two big wins last week, defeating conference foe Barnstable on the road Friday 92-63 and non-league North Attleboro at home Sunday 88-81.
01/10/08: Whalers coast past Coyle-Cassidy
Beau Garufi put his name on the Nantucket High School swimming and diving record board for the second time on Tuesday night, as the Whalers boys swim team suffered their first loss of the season to a strong Sandwich squad, 107-76.
12/20/07: Swimming cut short in Cape Classic
The Nantucket swimming and diving team’s second appearance in the Cape Cod Classic was cut short for the second year in a row Friday.
12/13/07: Swimmers gain valuable experience at BCC Relay Carnival
Nantucket placed third out of four teams in the Bay Colony Conference Relay Carnival Saturday, but it was what the swimmers took from the first competition of the season that coach Jim Pignato believes will benefit them for the rest of the campaign.
12/06/07: Girls swimming returns full squad
It was a rough season for the girls swimming and diving team last year. With no seniors and low numbers, the Whalers were winning races, but did not have the depth to win the meets. They are hoping to turn that around this season.
12/06/07: Boys swimming and diving returns with experience
It won’t be an easy road for the boys swimming and diving team this season. Coming off a successful 7-2 campaign last season, the boys swimming and diving team returns to the pool without a significant number of contributors from that squad.
