(Dec. 6, 2012) Former Lady Whaler head basketball coach Willis Ferreira finished last season unsure of his future plans as a Nantucket High school coach. Ferreira felt change was in the air.

“Everyone kept telling me change is good. I’ve been here a long time and I want to watch my son play, I think that’s important.”

This year he’ll get a front row seat to watch his son, junior Will Ferreira, as he takes over the head position as the boys basketball coach, following the retirement of Beau Almodobar as head coach for many years. Ferreira, who has coached the girls basketball team for 19 years, has a young team this season. Without many returning players, one might say Ferreira has his work cut out for him, but Ferreira sees things differently.
