(Nov. 8, 2012) With a pair of playoff wins the boys varsity soccer team is heading back to the Div. 3 South sectional semifinals. Last year the Whalers lost in the semifinal round to eventual South champion Cardinal Spellman.
This year, with the top seed in the tournament and a pair of strong performances against Bristol- Plymouth and Coyle & Cassidy, the team is primed for the stretch run.
On Tuesday the Whalers held off Coyle & Cassidy 3-2 at home in the quarterfinals after jumping out to a 3-0 lead and holding off a frantic late surge by the Warriors. The win came on the heels of a 3-0 win over B-P.
Next up is a semifinal match against 12-seed Seekonk, which edged 13-seed Cohasset Tuesday. The game is tentatively scheduled for today at a neutral site that was yet to be determined at press time, weather-permitting.
