(Sept. 20, 2012) The varsity football team hung with Blue Hills for three quarters in its home opener Friday night, but was outscored 16-0 in the fourth as the Warriors pulled away from the Whalers for a 32-14 victory.
The loss dropped the defending Div. 5 Super Bowl champions to 0-2 on the season, but the team showed marked improvement from its season-opening 28-0 loss to Pope John Paul II last week. Nantucket is scheduled to face its first Mayflower Small opponent Saturday on the road when it takes on Bishop Connolly.
Blue Hills won the 2011 Division 4A Super Bowl and is looking to repeat this year, led by star running back and two-time player of the year Vincent Burton. The senior captain carried the load for Blue Hills Saturday, running for 264 yards and three touchdowns against the Whalers on 36 carries.
