(Oct. 25, 2012) For the first time in school history, the varsity golf team is headed to the state championship thanks to its second-place finish Monday at the Div. 3 South sectional tournament at Dennis Highlands Golf Course.
Nantucket’s top three golfers – Ronan Daly, Emmet Daly and Marshall Shaffar-Roggeveen – all shot scores of 81 under difficult conditions on the par-71 course to propel the Whalers into the Div. 3 state tournament Monday in Devens, Mass. Alex Woodley’s 91 sealed the deal for Nantucket, which finished with a team score of 334, two strokes behind Bishop Stang, which won the event for the fourth time in the last five years.
“Once the scores from our top guys came in, we needed one more pretty decent score, and Alex’s 91 was good enough by three strokes. (Cape & Islands League champion) Cape Cod Academy, who beat us twice during the year, had a 337,” head coach Peter MacKay said Tuesday.
