The boys and girls varsity swim teams went three for four last week, as both squads beat Oliver Ames and split against Barnstable.
On Saturday the teams will face archrival and conference powerhouse Nauset at the Nantucket Community Pool. Last year the boys lost to the Warriors, but the girls tied, a rare occurrence in swim meets.
After losing 96-73 to Barnstable on the road Friday, the girls (1-1, 1-1 Bay Colony Conference) notched a 95-76 win over Oliver Ames on Saturday at the Community Pool.
Briana Vittorini took first in two individual events, the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:18.12, and the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:11.90.
Kelly Martin, Kaitlyn Ellis, Vittorini and Ainsley Ellis also took first in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Ainsley Ellis won the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Kaitlyn Ellis won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:29.95. Kelly Martin took first in the 100-yard freestyle and Ashley Martin won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:28.42.
“It was nice for the girls to bounce back after the loss against Barnstable,” head coach Jim Pignato said.

The boys team (2-0, 2-0 Bay Colony Conference) also defeated Oliver Ames on Saturday at the Community Pool 88-72 after beating Barnstable 92-67 off-island.
Harrison O’Rourke took first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:06.98, nearly 20 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
Beau Garufi won the 200-yard individual medley, and Nick Valero won an uncontested first place in the diving competition with a score of 205.25.
Will Martin’s time of 6:21.33 in the 500-yard freestyle was also good for first place.
The team of Mitchell, Billy Spencer, Jeremy Schneider and O’Rourke won the 200-yard freestyle relay.
“It shows how versatile we are on the boys’ side,” Pignato said. “We put our swimmers in events they weren’t used to swimming and they responded well.”
Split decision
On Friday, the teams traveled to the Cape Cod YMCA to take on Barnstable’s swimming teams. The boys notched a 92-67 win, while the girls had less success, losing 96-73.
“Barnstable snuck up on us. We were hoping to win both meets,” Pignato said.

On the boys’ side, Harrison O’Rourke won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:25.50, and took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.07 seconds.
Other top finishers for the Whalers included Sam Toole winning the 200-yard freestyle, Will Martin taking first in the 50-yard freestyle and Jeremy Schneider winning the 100-yard butterfly.
The team of Tucker Harvey, Beau Garufi, Jeremy Schneider and Billy Spencer won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:02.44. Schneider, Caleb Mitchell, Toole and O’Rourke won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:44.97.
On the girls side, the team of Rachel Schneider, Kelley Martin, Kaitlyn Ellis and Ainsley Ellis took first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:51.62.
In the individual events, Ainsley Ellis won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.44. Schneider won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:36.85. Kelley Martin won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.50 seconds, and Kaitlyn Ellis won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:07.59.
The girls were disqualified in the 500-yard freestyle because Pignato forgot to submit entry cards, which indicate which swimmers will be in the event and what lanes they are in. Had the cards been submitted in time, the girls still would have lost the meet, but it would have been tied heading going into the final event, which Barnstable won, Pignato said.
