With a 3-1 victory over Fairhaven Saturday and a 2-2 tie against St. Peter-Marian Monday, the Whalers are guaranteed a record of .500 or better and have therefore qualified for the fall dance.

The varsity field hockey team was looking for a challenge on its schedule this season and they certainly got their wish when they went up against Division I Falmouth Friday. The Whalers held their own, but were dominated for the first time this season in a 1-0 loss.

The junior varsity field hockey team ran into a strong Falmouth program Friday, and after a scoreless battle through most of the game, lost 1-0 on a goal late in the second half.

10/01/09: Whalers earn back-to-back shutout wins

The varsity field hockey team continued to dominate its opposition this week, defeating perennial playoff contender Mashpee 3-0 on the road Thursday and Division I foe Norwood 4-0 Saturday.

01/10/09: JV field hockey suffers first loss

The junior varsity field hockey team split two games this week, defeating Mashpee on the road 4-0 Thursday before losing for the first time this season 1-0 against Norwood Saturday at home.

09/24/09: Field hockey gets win over Fairhaven

After coasting easily through the first two games of the season, the varsity field hockey team was challenged this week, losing its first game at Marshfield 1-0 last Wednesday, before defeating Chatham easily 9-1 Friday and Fairhaven in a close 3-0 game Saturday.

09/24/09: JV field hockey earns back-to-back shutouts

The junior varsity field hockey team won its first two games of the season this week with shutout victories over Fairhaven 6-0 at home Saturday and Marshfield 2-0 on the road Wednesday.

09/17/09: Field hockey swipes second shutout win

There is little question that the Whalers field hockey team will be able to put some goals on the scoreboard this season. In the second display of its high-powered offense, the varsity squad picked up its second win of the season 13-0 at Sturgis Monday.

09/10/09: Field hockey cruises to first victory

The varsity field hockey team opened its regular season with an offensive explosion, relying on contributions from multiple weapons to take out Chatham 10-0 on the road Tuesday afternoon.

In the first game action of the fall season, the Whalers easily defeated Dedham in a scrimmage at home Tuesday afternoon 3-0. It was the first time Nantucket has defeated the Marauders in the annual preseason match-up.
