For the second straight season, the varsity field hockey team has been eliminated from the Division II South Sectional playoffs by Old Rochester.

After an emotional 2-1 victory at home over rival Martha’s Vineyard in the first round Friday afternoon, the fifth-seeded Whalers traveled to Mattapoisett for a quarterfinal clash with the fourth-seeded Bulldogs, and lost 1-0.

“We definitely knew we were going up against a good goalie. It was the same goalie as last year. I knew they had a lot of speed. We were prepared for that,” head coach Lori Moran said. “Talent-wise they are a good team. They obviously made it to the semifinals two years in a row. We needed the luck of a bounce and we just didn’t get one.”. . . More
