(Sept. 22, 2011 ) The Whalers took down their second Mayflower Large opponent in as many weeks Saturday afternoon, with a 35-14 win over Bristol-Plymouth in Taunton. With the win, the Whalers improved to 2-0, and will face another non-league foe in Hull Saturday at 5 p.m. at Vito Capizzo Stadium.     More

The Whalers gave Harwich a rude welcome to varsity-level football Saturday, topping the Roughriders 40-12 in their season opener at home. The beating was even more lop?sided than the final score indicated, as at the half, Nantucket had 204 yards of total offense to Nantucket had 347 yards, Harwich just 106.

The junior varsity football team dropped its third game of the season Monday, falling at Mashpee 30-0.

10/22/09: Southeastern crushes football

The varsity football team got pushed around in the second half Saturday afternoon at Southeastern. The Mayflower Large league squad controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and wore down the Whalers to earn the 30-8 victory.

10/22/09: JV football falls at Cape Cod Tech

The junior varsity football team lost on the final play of the game at Cape Cod Tech last week. The Crusaders scored a touchdown on an eight-yard sweep play as the clock struck zero to break a tie and take the 12-6 victory.

10/15/09: Football picks off third victory

It was open season on Wildcats Friday afternoon on Nantucket. The varsity football team preyed on the visiting West Bridgewater offense, tearing away five turnovers en route to a 26-6 victory.

10/08/09:Whalers harpoon Holbrook, 28-14

After the Whalers lost at home two weeks ago, head coach John Aloisi and his coaching staff challenged the players to show some mental and physical toughness. The varsity football team responded by beating Holbrook 28-14 in the rain on the road Saturday.

10/01/09: Tri-County clobbers football

he Mayflower Small League defending champions assembled three long scoring drives and controlled the time of possession, handing the Whalers their first league loss of the season, 28-0.

10/01/09: JV football falls to Pope John Paul II 14-0

Pope John Paul II capitalized on multiple Nantucket fumbles as the junior varsity football team defeated the JV Whalers 14-0 Monday afternoon.

09/24/09: Whalers roll to first victory

It has been quite a while since the Whalers won a football game. But Saturday night, the home team found its way into the win column for the first time in almost two years with a commanding 27-6 victory over Mayflower Small opponent Old Colony.

09/17/09:Cougars cut Whalers for a loss in opener

The crowd was still buzzing over his 47-yard bomb to DuVaughn Beckford when trailing 20-13, Whalers quarterback Jamison Viera dropped back from the 15-yard line looking for one of his receivers in the end zone in the closing seconds of Saturday’s opening game against Bishop Connolly.

09/10/09: Fresh start for varsity football

Under the direction of first-year head coach John Aloisi and his staff, the Whalers took to the gridiron last week to prepare for the upcoming season with some new drills, new plays and new expectations.
