Terrel Correia reaches up to grab the two-point conversion following his touchdown reception moments earlier in the third quarter of Friday night’s 14-12 Nantucket win over Cape Cod Tech. The two points ultimately decided the game in the Whalers’ favor. The team ended the season with a 6-5 record under new head coach John Aloisi, after a winless season in 2008.

Cape Cod Tech may be bigger and more physical, but the Crusaders could not stop the Whalers Friday night in the season finale. Trailing 12-0 at the half, Nantucket relied on a punishing air attack and scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to stun the Mayflower Large opponent 14-12.

“It was a nice way to end the season. It was a real positive how we responded in the second half. Down at halftime against a bigger team, to be able to rally was good,” head coach John Aloisi said. “In terms of perseverance we have come a long way this year, handling adversity and moving forward, and getting mentally tough.”

The Whalers, who finished 0-10 only a season ago, were 6-5 this fall (5-3 in the Mayflower Small). It was the first time Nantucket finished with a record above .500 since 2006. . . . .More
